“Wandering Heart” was written with my friends Matt and Brandt out of a shared place we all felt as dads, husbands, and followers of Jesus.

When we got together, we kept coming back to the same tension—the desire to be the best in every area of life, to be a good dad, a good husband, faithful to God, and successful in what we do. But we also talked about how hard it is to even define what “success” looks like in those areas. And when the target is unclear, it’s easy to walk away feeling like you’re not doing enough, or that you’ll never be enough.

That tension shaped the song. It reflects that internal wrestle—reaching for something higher while feeling stuck, questioning your own intentions, and carrying the weight of not measuring up. It’s the feeling behind lines like wondering if you’re enough, or if you’ve fallen short before you even really started.

But the song turns on a different truth. Our worth isn’t something we achieve or define for ourselves—it’s already been defined by God. It echoes what’s written in Galatians 2:20, that our lives are no longer our own, but Christ lives in us.

“Wandering Heart” is a reminder that success in life doesn’t come from striving to become something on our own, but from being rooted in Him. As dads, as husbands, as followers of Jesus, what matters most isn’t what we accomplish, but who we belong to.
