Story Behind the Song

Behind The Song: Trust in the Name of the Lord (Psalm 20) by Sound Affections

kingdomchorus | April 2, 2026

Rising songwriter Nathan Angelo and his side project Sound Affections are on a mission to set Psalms and other Biblical passages to music that strengthens and encourages God’s people.

Their latest release, Trust in the Name of the Lord (Psalm 20), is a foot-stomping anthem that calls believers to place their confidence fully in God rather than in earthly power.

We asked Nathan to share the personal story behind this powerful new song.

Could you please share the personal story behind this song?

A few years back during a difficult season of life, work and church frustrations, I started reading the Psalms daily. They were a source of comfort in a tumultuous time. It helped me to remember the greatness and majesty of God.

My idea of Him had become too small, and the Psalms were helping me to see His sovereignty. That knowledge gave me peace and helped me to trust in Him like never before.

I have been a songwriter for the past 20 years, but only recently I started writing overtly Christian songs as a way to coach myself with truth via God’s Word and encourage fellow believers.

This has been a labor of love, but it brings me joy to know when brothers and sisters in Christ are strengthened by my songs.

I had been writing Christian songs for about a year when I came across Psalm 20.

It came together fairly quickly when the main hook jumped off the pages to me: “some trust in chariots and others trust horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” I heard this foot stomping anthem. So I wrote it as that and brought it to my producer.

We started recording in the fall of 2025 (pre-pro, drums, bass) and finished earlier this year.

For me, it is a reminder that God is greater than any earthly kingdom or power, and yet He lovingly and specifically cares for His people, going with and before us wherever we go.

It brings me great comfort, and helps me to trust in Him more fully.

Which Bible verse connects to the message of the song?

Psalm 20:7 (NIV) Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

What is the takeaway message?

This song reminds us that no matter how strong or impressive earthly powers may seem, our true security and hope rest in the name of the Lord our God.

It is an invitation to trust Him fully and to remember His sovereignty and personal care for His people.

If you have not heard Trust in the Name of the Lord (Psalm 20) yet, go stream it now on your favorite platform or check out the lyric video. Let this foot-stomping declaration build your faith and fill you with fresh confidence in God today.

In uncertain times, songs like this one anchor our hearts in timeless truth. Sound Affections continues to deliver music that points us back to the greatness of our God.
