Phil Wickham – Homesick for Heaven (Lyric Video)
There’s something strange that happens when you’ve tasted real sorrow.
You stop pretending this life is enough.
The laughter fades quicker.
The lights of the world feel dimmer.
And even the best days seem like shadows of something better… something forever.
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
And you’re not broken.
You’re homesick.
🕊️ This World Is Not Our Home
It’s easy to forget that we were made for eternity when everything around us screams for attention—news, social media, deadlines, and distractions.
But for those who’ve walked through grief, disappointment, or deep suffering, the illusion wears off fast.
The world tries to offer comfort.
It tells us things like “They’re in a better place” or “Time heals all wounds.”
But deep down, we know better.
Time doesn’t heal—it numbs.
And no earthly comfort can reach the level of soul-ache that loss brings.
Phil Wickham’s Homesick for Heaven doesn’t try to numb that ache.
It acknowledges it, then gently points us upward—reminding us that we were never meant to stay here.
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…”
– Philippians 3:20
✝️ The Ache Has a Purpose
There’s a common misunderstanding that pain is a sign that something’s gone wrong.
But according to scripture, pain is often what wakes us up to what’s actually right.
Grief reminds us of the value of life.
Longing reminds us there’s more than this moment.
And heartbreak reminds us that sin has corrupted what was once good—but it won’t have the final say.
The ache in your chest isn’t just sadness.
It’s evidence that you were made for something death can’t touch.
A place without hospitals.
Without funerals.
Without goodbye hugs.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…”
– Revelation 21:4
🏠 A Place Prepared for You
Jesus didn’t leave Heaven’s gates wide open just for the super-spiritual.
He opened them for you—the weary, the broken, the burdened, the ones who’ve messed up more times than they can count.
He said it plainly:
“In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.”
– John 14:2
This is the kind of promise that flips your whole perspective.
If you’ve put your trust in Jesus, this life isn’t the whole story.
It’s just the first page.
And Heaven isn’t a myth—it’s a destination.
But it’s not automatic.
Heaven is real, but so is hell.
And the only way to step into God’s eternal home is through faith in the One who defeated death—Jesus Christ.
💔 If You’ve Lost Someone…
There’s nothing like grief to make Heaven feel more real.
Every parent who has lost a child…
Every child who has said goodbye to a parent too soon…
Every spouse still sleeping on one side of the bed…
You know what it’s like to wake up and feel the ache.
But friend, grief is not the end of the story.
In Christ, what was torn apart by death will be stitched back together by resurrection.
And the reunion will be sweeter than words can describe.
Don’t run from the ache.
Let it remind you where your heart truly belongs.
Let it draw you to the only One who has conquered the grave.
🙌 So What Do We Do While We Wait?
We don’t just sit around wishing for Heaven.
We live like people who belong there already.
We walk in love.
We tell others the good news.
We live ready—for that moment when this life ends, and real life begins.
Because Heaven isn’t just the absence of pain.
It’s the presence of God.
And Jesus is the door.
“Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
– John 14:6
