A KINGDOM CHORUS SONG STORY
Not a better version.
A new life.
Jonathan Duff’s “Life Was Changed” begins with the story of Lazarus, but it does not leave the listener at the tomb. It carries that story into Jonathan’s own testimony: Jesus met him in a place of spiritual death and called him into life.
Jonathan describes the song as a personal reflection on John 11. The miracle of Lazarus coming out of the grave gave him a way to write about redemption that felt honest and immediate. The point is not self-improvement. It is the difference Christ makes when He calls someone out of what once held them.
“God called me out of the death I was walking in, into the life of abundance with Him.”
— Jonathan Duff
After years of writing worship music, Jonathan wanted this song to reach beyond familiar church settings. He kept its message direct and hopeful, imagining it heard on a road trip, in a coffee shop, or wherever someone might need to hear that grace can change a life.
The sound follows that intention. Acoustic guitar and mandolin bring warmth; percussion and a buoyant folk-pop pulse keep it moving. It has the ease of summer music without setting aside the weight of its central claim: the new life Jesus gives is real.
For listeners who know the feeling of being stuck in an old story, “Life Was Changed” offers a different picture. Lazarus heard the call to come out. Jonathan sings about that same invitation becoming personal—and turns it into something worth celebrating.
