A song named for what we cannot do without.
OXYGEN is one of those titles that stops you for a second. It names something we need every moment, even when we are too busy to think about it.
Josh Clay first released the song as a single in February 2025. It later found a place on his Chapter II (Part 2) EP, released in May 2026. The black and white artwork for that chapter gives this page its visual language: a stark portrait, open white space and the numeral II, as if the music is inviting us into a new part of the story.
The title offers a way into the song without telling listeners what they have to feel. For someone coming to Josh’s music through faith, oxygen can suggest dependence, renewal and the gift of another breath. It leaves room for each listener to bring their own experience to the song.
The voice behind the song
Josh’s own account of his journey gives this release a wider context. Raised in LaGrange, Georgia, he learned guitar through someone at church and spent his teenage years playing in worship bands. He later chased music on his own, moved to California with a band and returned home after that chapter fell apart. Back in Georgia, he taught himself more about piano and production and kept writing.
On his artist profile, Josh says he once hesitated to write worship music because he thought everything had already been said. He came to believe each person has a song only they can sing. That conviction gives his catalog its personal center. OXYGEN is worth hearing with that in mind: not as a slogan, but as a song from an artist who wants his music to reach people one heart at a time.
