Scott DeClaire Jr. Releases Faith-Based Christian Song Solid Ground

Trust Before You See: The Deeper Story Behind “Solid Ground”

The story behind Scott DeClaire Jr. Release of Faith-Based Christian Song Solid Ground didn’t come from a songwriting session—it came from Scripture. Specifically, Joshua chapter 3.

Scott DeClaire Jr. calls himself “an Old Testament nerd,” and this chapter caught his attention for a reason. It’s one of those moments in the Bible that feels small at first—but once you notice it, it never lets go.

God told the priests of Israel to carry the Ark of the Covenant and step into the Jordan River. But this wasn’t some peaceful creek—they were standing before a river in full flood. Raging, dangerous, untamed.

And God said, “Step in.”

Now, Scott noticed something powerful. When the Red Sea parted back in Exodus, it happened before the people took a step. Moses lifted his staff, and the sea split in two. Dry ground showed up, and the Israelites crossed through it with walls of water on each side.

They got to see the miracle first. Then they trusted.
But in Joshua 3, it was different.

This time, God didn’t part the water first.
He asked them to step in—and then He would move.

“They had to trust the miracle before they could see it,” Scott said. “And I think that’s what God is still doing in our lives today.”

The moment their feet touched the water, the Bible says the river “stood up in a heap”—God made a way where there wasn’t one. But not a second before.

It’s that moment—the hesitation, the tension, the raw obedience—that Solid Ground captures in song.

That kind of faith isn’t easy. It’s risky. It looks crazy to people watching from the shoreline. But as Scott put it:

“Every time I’ve taken a step of faith, even when it felt harder than the last, God has come through. Not once has He failed me. The step might get scarier, but His faithfulness only gets clearer.”

That’s why the chorus hits so hard:

“I’m stepping out on the water
Some call it faith, some call it crazy
The One who saves me turns rivers raging into solid ground”

The truth is, we all want to see dry ground before we step. But faith doesn’t work that way.

Sometimes God says:
“Put your foot in the water, and then I’ll show you what I’m about to do.”

That’s not reckless. That’s biblical.
That’s obedience.
That’s what it means to walk by faith—not by sight.

Scott’s not singing this song because he thinks it sounds nice. He’s singing it because he’s lived it. And if you’ve ever had to make a move without a safety net—whether it was a job, a calling, a healing, or a decision to follow Jesus—then you’ve lived it too.

He’s inviting all of us to believe that even if the waters look wild, God is still the One who makes a way.
He always has.
He always will.

So the next time He says “step out,” Solid Ground will be right there in your earbuds—reminding you that you’re not alone in the river.

God parts waters.
