About The Song

I wrote this song when I found myself in the tension between what seemed impossible and what God had promised me.

The story of Jericho has always stuck with me.

An entire city sealed shut behind massive walls, with no visible weaknesses. From a human perspective, it was unwinnable. Yet God didn’t tell His people to bring bigger weapons or use smarter tactics.

He asked them to be obedient.

Rarely are the strongest walls in our lives made of stone.

They are built from fear, shame, disappointment, addiction, broken relationships, or prayers that seem to echo without an answer. We so often learn to live in the shadow of those walls, assuming they won’t ever move.

But God specializes in the impossible.

This song is a celebration. It is about turning around and seeing rubble where something once held you captive. It is about the moment you realize that the barrier you thought defined your future is now evidence of God’s faithfulness.

Because when God moves, He does not just crack the walls.

He brings them all the way down.

LYRICS

[VERSE 1]

You turned the prison I was in

Into a place of praise

You turned the ground I was on

Into a holy place

You sent down fire from above

And set this altar ablaze

I came with nothing but regret

And You still ran my way

[CHORUS]

Cause when I look to where the gates once stood

There’s wreckage all around

When I look to where the thrones once reigned

There’s no one on them now

And when You say You’ve made a promised land

Milk and honey will be found

‘Cause where the walls once stood in Jericho

There is rubble on the ground

[VERSE 2]

You saw the road I was on

Yet you still walked with me

You wiped the mud off my eyes

So I could finally see

You broke my rusted chains

You came to set me free

And who the Son sets free

We know is free indeed

[CHORUS]

Cause when I look to where the gates once stood

There’s wreckage all around

When I look to where the thrones once reigned

There’s no one on them now

And when You say You’ve made a promised land

Milk and honey will be found

‘Cause where the walls once stood in Jericho

There is rubble on the ground

BRIDGE

There is rubble on the ground

There is rubble on the ground

There is rubble on the ground

Rubble on the ground

[CHORUS]

Cause when I look to where the gates once stood

There’s wreckage all around

When I look to where the thrones once reigned

There’s no one on them now

And when You say You’ve made a promised land

Milk and honey will be found

‘Cause where the walls once stood in Jericho

Oh, where the walls once stood in Jericho

There’s rubble on the ground

[TAG]

You turned the prison I was in

Into a place of praise
