Josh Clay Opens Up About the Heart of “Hiding Place”

kingdomchorus | April 18, 2026

You know that feeling when everything feels heavy. Like you are carrying mistakes, loneliness, or just the weight of a rough season. And all you want is somewhere safe to hide.

That is exactly where Josh Clay was coming from when he wrote Hiding Place.

Josh is not your typical polished worship artist with a big backstory tour. He is a dad from LaGrange, Georgia, who describes himself pretty simply.

He grew up in church, played guitar in worship bands from his teens until his early twenties, then stepped away to chase his own path.

In 2014 he even moved to California with a band which fell apart pretty quickly. By 2017 he was back home, thinking music might be over for him.

But he could not quit writing songs. Over the years he kept creating honest, no-frills music that comes straight from real life.

The kind of songs that meet you in the middle of the mess instead of pretending everything is fine.

Hiding Place feels like one of those honest moments put to music.

Lines like You are my hiding place when I am broken and You are my shelter in every storm when I cannot carry on hit different because they do not sugarcoat the struggle.

It is about those times when people let you down, when your own mistakes feel too loud, or when the night feels extra dark. And realizing God is still right there as a safe refuge.

The song pulls straight from Psalm 32:7. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble.

But Josh delivers it in a way that feels personal and everyday, not preachy. It is the kind of track you can put on during a tough drive, a quiet morning, or when you just need to breathe and remember you are not alone in the storm.

Part of his Chapter II project which dropped in early 2026, Hiding Place continues Josh’s journey of writing songs that actually mean something to regular people living regular lives.

No giant dramatic testimony required. Just a guy who has been there, reminding us that even when we feel exposed and broken, there is still a place to run and find shelter.

If you have been looking for a song that feels like a deep breath in the middle of chaos, give Hiding Place a listen. It might just become your new go-to when life gets loud.

About Josh Clay

Born and raised in the small town of LaGrange, Josh grew up in church knowing all about Jesus but never truly knowing Him in a personal way. At age 12 he picked up a guitar, and by 15 he was playing in worship bands. He stayed involved in church music until around age 23, then stepped away to chase his own dreams. In 2014 he moved to California with his band, but things did not work out as planned. By 2017 he was back home, wondering if music was behind him for good.

Yet the songs never stopped coming. Josh kept writing honest music straight from real life. His sound mixes heartfelt lyrics with a raw, relatable faith that meets people right in the middle of their mess.

Today Josh continues to create music as an independent artist. His releases, including the 2026 EP Chapter II (Part 1) featuring the song Hiding Place, focus on God as refuge, strength, and shelter through everyday struggles. With a down to earth style and a heart for worship, Josh makes music for regular people walking through real seasons of brokenness, hope, and dependence on God.
