Matt Rees’ new single “In Your Wings” Is Here

kingdomchorus | June 13, 2026

Matt Rees’ new single “In Your Wings” is an upbeat acoustic soul worship song inspired by Psalm 61 — a Scripture that begins with a cry for help and rises into a confident declaration of trust in the sheltering presence of God.

At the heart of the song is the refrain: “I’m gonna live in Your tent forever and take shelter in Your wings.” It is a simple line, but it carries the weight of a deep spiritual truth. When life feels uncertain, when the heart is overwhelmed, and when help feels beyond reach, the Lord remains a refuge for His people.

For Matt, the song began during a quiet moment while visiting family in Indiana. Sitting in the sunshine with his guitar nearby, he was reading through Psalm 61 when the words began to stir something in him.

“Psalm 61 starts with a cry to God for help and ends with glorious praise,” Rees shares. “Something in me was stirred by that open request to the Lord to be heard. At the heart of it all is David’s declaration that he will live in God’s tabernacle and trust in the shelter of His wings.”

That movement — from crying out to worshiping with confidence — became the heart of “In Your Wings.” The song does not ignore the need for help. It begins there. But it does not stay there. It lifts the listener toward the faithfulness of God, reminding us that His mercy and truth are still worth singing about.

Musically, “In Your Wings” carries a warm and energetic sound shaped by folk, CCM, worship, and soul influences. Rhythmic acoustic guitar, piano, organ, drums, bass, and electric lead guitar give the track a joyful lift, while Matt’s vocal moves from low and intimate to high and vibrant. The result is a song that feels both personal and congregational — a prayer of refuge and a declaration of praise.

While the song is adapted directly from Scripture, Matt also brings a personal and Christ-centered expression to it. The second verse turns toward Jesus, the Son of David, and carries a generational prayer of gratitude and worship — a desire to see his children and his children’s children praise the Lord.

“I think this song was the first time I really began to catch the theme of generational worship that is so central to my writing now,” Rees says. “It provides a wide open space to cry out to the Lord for help, but also to give Him joyful praise in His mercy and truth.”

That generational theme gives “In Your Wings” a wider sense of purpose. It is not only a song for one moment of need. It is a song about dwelling with God, trusting His covering, and passing worship from one generation to the next.

For listeners who enjoy Scripture-based worship, acoustic-driven CCM, Christian soul, and upbeat songs of faith, “In Your Wings” offers a joyful reminder that God is still a shelter. His presence is still a refuge. His faithfulness still reaches from one generation to the next.
