A Song That Stayed, and a Cover That Honors It
Some songs don’t fade with time. They stay with you.
For Josh Bissell, Kind is one of those songs.
Originally written by Jesse Reeves, Michael Farren, Steve Fee, Cory Asbury, and Paul Mabury, and later recorded by Cory Asbury, Kind first caught Josh’s attention back in 2023, even before it was officially recorded.
“Before it was ever released, the weight of it was already there,” Josh shares. “It struck me. It awed me.”
What moved him most was how honestly the song spoke to real life. It didn’t shy away from grief, doubt, or hard questions, yet it still pointed clearly to the kindness of God right in the middle of it all. Every lyric felt lived in, not theoretical.
In many ways, Kind became permission for Josh.
“It gave me permission to write the songs that had been forming in me but didn’t quite have a way out yet,” he explains. “And when Cory Asbury released it with such tenderness and depth, that impact only grew.”
Nearly two and a half years later, the song never let go.
This recording is Josh Bissell’s way of honoring that gift. It carries the same truths, the same weight, and the same lived experience, now filtered through his own voice and interpretation. It is a tribute to the writers who crafted it with courage and care, and ultimately to our Heavenly Father, who has always been kind.
Blending indie folk textures with raw, honest storytelling, Josh’s version invites listeners to sit with the lyrics, not rush past them, and remember the steady grace that remains even when faith feels fragile.
